But at Dad. I think his dementia might be avoidable if he were exercising and trying to be interested in something. But then again, maybe this is how he is preparing - for no time soon, I fear - to leave this earth. It's beyond frustration, and I can't believe that you and Kim continue to perservere without losing your marbles.

You've so nicely captured in a nutshell what's happened with Mom and Dad.

Al says he's going to give a swipe at the whole VA thing to see about a monthly stipend, especially now that you are shaving Dad. As long as Dad's money (another 2 years or so) and your mental health (to be determined) hold out, we are okay-ish.

But certainly know that Paula and I are there to make alternative arrangements...Donnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07676875180314731232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6167312516524906768.post-75683131482700493102012-09-05T21:35:07.956-05:002012-09-05T21:35:07.956-05:00Wow. You're doing better than I would probably do.

I liked the phrase "going all jungle machete" - though if he gets a bigger knife, that may not be so humorous.

As far as "why dementia?", I think that the beginnings of it have been there all along - it's just that people usually died before the symptoms got real severe. These days, the medical folks are doing a much better job at keeping our bodies going, and we live longer. The slower-acting diseases have a chance to pop up more than if we had died younger. And they aren't sure what causes Alzheimer's. There's a possible tie to aluminum, and also indications that keeping mentally active will delay or diminish the effects.

But what is the real reason for it? Sin. Not a person's sin, but Adam and Eve's sin that allowed evil into the world. They were banished from the Garden of Eden, and it's been down-hill ever since. Ain't no cure for it, either, not in this life.

But we sure got something to look forward to!Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12044374080933254582noreply@blogger.com
